Backyard Landscaping and Your Mesa Pool

Here are a few things to keep in mind when designing your landscaping with a pool!
Mesa, Arizona

Your Mesa pool shouldn’t just be a big water hole in your backyard. It should have the features you want to be a welcoming oasis for you and your family. It should also be part of the overall backyard design, complementing the look of your home and increasing the value of your property.

Whether you are getting a new Mesa custom pool or just doing some pool remodeling, consider making some changes to your backyard landscaping, as well. Here are a few things to keep in mind when designing your landscaping:

Choose Foliage Wisely

Shrubs and trees provide a nice border and shading for your pool, which is especially important during the hot, Arizona summers. However, when the weather turns colder, those trees will shed their leaves all over your pool, creating a huge mess that is difficult to clean.

You don’t want to be spending your weekends scooping leaves out of your pool. Choose what you plant carefully, and trim back any trees that are already in your yard and overhanging your pool.

Add Boulders

Large rocks and boulders look gorgeous next to a freeform pool that blends in nicely with the rest of the natural environment. You can place a large boulder at one end of the pool next to a shrub or another small rock formation. You can repeat this placement at points around the pool that make the most sense.

Large rocks are not suitable for geometric pools, which have clean, straight lines.

Provide Rest Places

You won’t be swimming in your pool the whole time you are outside. You may want to get out and rest for a bit or enjoy a snack. Provide plenty of rest places around the pool that are shaded and comfortable, such as a pool house, gazebos, or umbrellas over lounge chairs. Place other landscaping elements around these rest areas, such as bushes and flowers, to make the areas look more inviting.

Add Barbecue Pits

Pools and barbecues just go together. Don’t just set up a charcoal grill next to your pool. Consider adding a barbecue pit made of brick or stone that matches the design of your pool and your other landscaping elements. You can create any style of pit you like, or you can even add a poolside fireplace. Explore the options to find the best fit for the look you are trying to create.

Whatever landscaping elements you include, the key to success is making sure they all work together as one cohesive design. The landscaping will complement the pool and your home, creating a gorgeous scene that you will love to visit whenever you can.
